I'd rather be Paddling

As many of you know, I am an avid stand up paddler.  I caught the stand up paddling (SUP) bug about a year and a half ago, and have increased my quiver (fancy name for lots of boards-and yes, I also read Fancy Nancy to my girls) to include a 11’ ULI inflatable, a 12’ Surftech Laird Softop and a 14’ Surftech Bark Expedition.  Above is a picture of me smiling ear to ear with the Laird.

The reason I bought that board was so I can take my girls, age 4 and 6 and our new dog Rosetta (Rosey) with me on paddles up at Cultus lake.  I want to instill in my kids love of SUPing, as well as a love for sport and physical activity.  I am a strong believer in doing what you love.

Incorporating what you love into your physical activity will keep you motivated and it’ll keep you fit.  There is no faster way to fall off the work out wagon than to do something that you hate.  If you hate running and weights, hey, those activities at the gym are not going to keep you coming back for more.

We are in the season of consumable gluttony, and right around the corner are New Year’s resolutions.  I know, I’m sorry, I mentioned resolutions and you haven’t even feasted on that turkey yet.  But seriously, even Costco is thinking about your resolution to get fit....just go look at all the treadmills and ellipticals taking over spots where Christmas trees once were.

So this year, if you are prone to make resolutions, why not make a resolution to do something you love that’s also active.  There are plenty of hiking, biking, swimming, dancing, rowing, running, walking, geocaching clubs out there, as well as numerous group and team sports.  Give you kids a new kind of gift this year, give them the gift of example.  Let them see that taking care of yourself and your body and mind ranks really high up on the scale of things that deserve to be done.
